Carmen Melinda Vanek of Eaton Rapids,
Passed away August 8, 2019 at the age of 61. Melinda was born in Lansing, MI, April 23, 1958, the daughter of Lee and Frances (Nelson) Mort. She graduated from MSU with a bachelor’s degree in communications. Melinda was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and was involved with the small church community. She also attended bible study at the First United Methodist Church and was part of Stephen’s Ministry. Melinda enjoyed watching T.V. and listening to Rat Pack music. She was a medical miracle as a recipient of 3 kidneys and 2 pancreases surviving with those generous donations, including a kidney from her husband, for over 23 years.
Melinda is survived by her mother, Frances Mort of Lansing; husband, Martin Vanek Jr; daughter, Sarah Melinda Vanek of Eaton Rapids; brother, Kerwin Mort of Lansing and her grand dog, Lilly. She was preceded in death by her father.
A Memorial Mass will be 11 am Tuesday August 20, 2019 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Visitation will take place at the Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel, Monday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a Rosary prayed at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the Memorial Mass.
