Jack Douglas Emerson of Grand Ledge,
Jack Douglas Emerson of Grand Ledge, passed away February 21, 2019 at the age of 87 surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Flint, MI on January 26, 1932, the son of Glendon and Helen (Headley) Emerson. Jack served with the US Air Force during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant and mechanic. While in the Air Force he distinguished himself as part of an elite troubleshooting unit that was flown around the world to address plane crashes and other emergencies.
In 1955, he married Mary Ann and together they raised two daughters, Susan and Jill. Jack was especially involved in Susan’s special education, and organized and chaperoned her Senior class trip, along with 20 of her classmates, to Disney World. This was one of Disney World’s first experiences entertaining teenagers with special needs. Jack worked for General Motors (Buick) as a mechanic, was a member of the UAW and retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. His retirement years were enjoyed at several homes including Higgins Lake, Traverse City, and Estero, Florida. He was talented at fixing and building almost anything, and in fact built three of his family's homes. Jack was an active member of several Methodist Churches, and he enjoyed traveling in his motor-home, vacations in Florida, fishing and long walks. He valued being a good son, husband, father, friend and servant to God and country.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Fox) Emerson; daughters, Susan Lee Emerson of Grand Ledge and Jill Ann Emerson of New York City.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., March 2, 2019 in the Garden Room at Independence Village, 4775 Village Dr., Grand Ledge, MI, 48837. Visitation will be held from 2:30 - 3 p.m. Those desiring to make memorial contributions may do so to the donor’s choice of charity, any Humane Society or the Fr Fred Foundation, 826 Hastings St, Traverse City, MI 49686.
