David August Balzer of Eaton Rapids,
Passed away December 14, 2020 at the age of 76. David was born in Lansing, August, 23, 1944, the son of August and Elsie (Lyons) Balzer. He graduated from Mason High School in 1963 and shortly thereafter, enlisted with the US Navy during the Vietnam War, serving from 1963-1967. David worked for Fisher Body and the Board of Water and Light fresh out of the Navy, worked as an apprentice with Federal Drop Forge as a press operator, and finally, worked as a pipe fitter with Wyeth. He grew up on a farm, had an appreciation for Harleys, hot rods, oldies music, trees, wildlife and bears, in particular, and his many other hobbies. David was also a proud member of the Mason’s in Lancaster, PA. He was a reserved, proud patriotic man who enjoyed all of his freedoms, and never backed down from anything. David was a hardworking man who provided for his family first and foremost and was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and family in need.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Balzer; son, William (Jessica) Balzer of Lansing; grandchildren, Veronica, Ray and William Jr; brother, George Balzer; nieces, Doty and Tracie; beloved dog, Bear. David was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Carolyn “Rabbit” Balzer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday December 17, 2020 at the Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project or the VFW local #7309 in Mason.
