As we sat in Dad’s hospital room loving on dad, comforting each other and waiting for the inevitable, a nurse walked in and said “the wealth of a person’s life can be measured by the number of people surrounding them at this stage of their life. Seeing all of you in this room gives me chills. He nailed it, James Johnson was truly loved!”
James Edward Johnson, 85 of Eaton Rapids died September 4th with family around him. James met and married the Love of His Life, Elsie Miller in 1955. They shared a wonderful 55 year marriage filled and were blessed with 5 wonderful children. James was born November 4, 1935, to Margaret and Johnathon Johnson.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elsie, his son JR Johnson, his daughter Norma Cole, brothers Ronald Johnson, Roy Leon Johnson, Curt Johnson and Joel Johnson, sister Faye Boggs. James is survived by daughters Tresa (Rick) Grossman of Charlotte, NC; Mary (Mark) Poe of Matthews, NC and Penny (David) McWhirter of Eaton Rapids, MI, daughter-n-law Rise Ward, son-n-law Scott Bateson, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, sister Nell (Glenn) Miller, brother Johnny (Diane) Johnson, numerous nieces, nephews, sister-n-laws, brother-n-laws, cousins, aunt Laverne and many friends all of whom loved him very much and will miss him dearly. Gone yet not forgotten, although we are apart, your spirit lives within us, forever in our hearts.
Service will be 11:00 am Wednesday September 8, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Eaton Rapids, 9200 Kinneville Rd. Viewing will be Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the Mills Funeral Home Shelly-Odell Chapel and at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
